Alumni Group Awards ScholarshipBy Angie Cline MolletteThe 2009 winner of the Oceana High School Alumni Association's annual scholarship has been announced. This year's recipient is Randall Corey Kennedy of Brenton. A Westside senior, he will receive $1000 to be used toward his college expenses.
Kennedy is the son of Randall P. and Patsy Kennedy of Brenton. He plans to pursue a degree in pre-med biology from Concord University in Athens, with the goal of becoming a Doctor or Osteopathic Medicine. Kennedy has been actively involved in many extracurricular activities at Westside such as Student Council, FCA, Co-Ed Hi Y, Pep Club, and RAZE, as well as baseball and basketball. Some of his awards include Governor's Honors Academy, Math Field Day, Concord Book Award, and National Honor Society. Kennedy has also participated in several community volunteer projects that include Energy Express, Adopt-a-Family, and Crew Leader for Vaction Bible School at his church. Debra K. Cook, president of the OHS Alumni Association, presented a certificate to Kennedy recently at the Association's Mix and Mingle dinner. "We are very pleased to present this year's scholarship to this very deserving young man." Cook said. |
