OHS Alumni to mix, mingle at Oceana Middle SchoolBy Angie Cline Mollette for the Wyoming County ReportOceana High School Alumni Association will host its third annual Mix and Mingle in the Oceana Middle School cafeteria beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25. County Clerk Mike Goode will be demonstrating how to use the new electronic, touch-screen voting machines. "This will be a good opportunity for anyone who votes to get to see how simple these machines really are," Goode said. "I'm also looking forward to attending the dinner and socializing with these fine people." Paul Ray Blankenship, president of the alumni association, said he is delighted Goode will be attending to show the machines to voters who may be intimidated by the new procedure. "Voting is such a vital part of the democratic process, and I think showing the people how to use these new machines will prove beneficial to all who choose to participate," Blankenship said. Special guests will also include this year's alumni scholarship winners, Joshua Wimmer and Kayla Cline, who will be recognized during the festivities. This year marks the first time the association has awarded scholarships to two seniors from Westside High School. "Offering the scholarships each year is one of our main goals," Blankenship said. "I think the Mix and Mingle is my favorite thing we do during the year. It is a good way to bring the scholarship winners in and let them get to know us and introduce them to everyone." Anyone wishing to make donations to the scholarship fund will have an opportunity to do so at the dinner. Oceana High School Alumni Association cookbooks will also be available for purchase during the dinner. The proceeds from the cookbooks, which are $20 each, go to the scholarship fund. |
